Southern Tall Case Clock
Thomas McCarty, Wellsburg, VA

American Southern Tall Case Clocks of this quality are rare.  They were simply not made in the quantities made in the North.  This wonderful cherry Inlaid tall case clock is strongly attributed to Thomas McCarthy of Wellsburg, VA, circa 1816.  Wellsburg is now known as Charlestown, WV.

Swan neck top terminating in satinwood/maple wood pinwheel inlays, carved flame finials with string inlaid plinth, the waist adorned with fluted quarter columns, and a base section with canted corners decorated with string and bellflower inlays, the entire case resting on the original untouched flared French bracket feet.  Painted porcelain face dial with moon phase dial, calendar wheel, small circular Chinese Export style vignettes in the corners.  Eight-day works, size;  101" tall.
