Chinese Wood Carving Depicting The Legend of Yuji

Depicts the Legend of Yuji, the famous beauty and concubine of the warrior Xiang Yu (233-202 BC).  Xiang Yu was routed at the famous battle of Kaixia.  Instead of leaving her lord, Yuji committed suicide before him.  This statue represents the moment before she kills herself. Late 19th C., carved from one block of wood.  Retains traces of original paint, some cracking, loss of the sword blade.  Size:  47" high x 26" wide.
