Kazak Runner

Southern Causasian, last quarter 19th C. "Kazak" refers to carpets made by Cossack nomads who are most likely related to the Cossack tribes of Russia.  The name itself is a corruption of the word "Cossack."  Colors are bright shades of red, green, yellow, brown, and rose with some ivory or white.  Bold geometric designs are characteristic, as is the portrayal of animals and humans.  See The Practical Book of Oriental Carpets by Dr. G. Griffin Lewis.
